Portrait Diptych

The Fight Series , Emil Kranz '11
The four sets of photos above show the series of events taking place in a fight between Nolan Emme and Adam Buongiovanni. The tough bully played by Adam starts out on the offensive in an attempt to scare the nerd (note the glasses) played by Nolan. Nolan is frightened and tries to run away but to no avail. Nolan must fight, and fight he did. Landing a punch as seen in the third set and eventually coming out victorious (fourth set). This series shows that sometimes the bully gets what is coming to him.

  1. I like how we both have colored shirts without any writing on them. It takes the focus off of our clothes and on to what is going on in the portraits. I like how the lighting really goes well in all of them, but the first photo doesn't really seem to mesh well w/ the others.

  2. As you progress throughout the year, I see that your photographing skills and techniques have improved greatly. But the best choice that you made with this piece is the models that portryed the scene. These two rookie models played a such a good role in the series, that if this roll were to made into a movie, they would easily win an Oscar for best actor and best supporting actor. The came dressed appropriately, which was only beneficial to your series in the long run, and they also showed this situation as if it was real life. I could tell that they forgot that they were in fact in a studio and they played the role as if they were "dropped" into the situation. Your choice of cast was amazing, and for that, I can only see you improving. You are a great photographer, Emil kranz, and you must utilize your potential and one day, your dedication to the thing you are good at will truly pay off.

  3. Hi Emil! I had to critique yours and this is pretty much what I said.
I really liked the idea of the series and how it told a story from beginning to end showing a good clear message. I think you could have worked the lighting better because in each pair of pictures the background looks a different color, especially the first and last one look kind of green so maybe you could have fixed that. And Nolan and his shirt also kind of change to a pinkish towards the end and his hand and leg came out a bit blurry.. unless you ment to have it that way? but besides that, I really like it.
& another thing, I noticed Nolan has glasses in all of them except the very first picture.. so watch out for the little things as well.
    ok that's it! :)
